Application
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to conduct a compliance audit of park or recreational facilities to identify non-conformities with Australian Standards, legislative and work health and safety requirements, as well as manufacturers' standards.
It applies to individuals who analyse information and exercise judgement to complete a range of advanced skilled activities and demonstrate deep knowledge in a specific technical area. They have accountability for the work of others and analyse, design and communicate solutions to a range of complex problems. All work is carried out to comply with workplace procedures.
No occupational licensing, legislative or certification requirements are known to apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Prepare for comprehensive inspection of park facilities |
1.1 Determine the specific facilities and equipment to be inspected as well as the purpose of the inspection as outlined in the operational request 1.2 Identify the tools and equipment for testing and inspection and confirm availability with appropriate personnel 1.3 Carry out pre-operational and safety checks on tools and equipment 1.4 Prepare appropriate checklists and reporting formats to suit the activity 1.5 Identify the types of facilities from checklist descriptions |
2. Undertake comprehensive inspection of park facilities |
2.1 Identify and record instances of non-conformity with Australian Standards, work health and safety guidelines and manufacturers’ standards 2.2 Undertake inspections for structural integrity in an efficient and safe manner, according to enterprise policy. 2.3 Identify and detail safety risks and hazards and situations. 2.4 Ensure that checklist entries are concise and accurate. 2.5 Undertaken inspections according to OHS requirements. |
3. Assess age and predict effective lifespan of existing park facilities |
3.1 Identify the manufacturer of playground equipment and structures through reference to original plans and specifications 3.2 Determine and record the age and future lifespan of park facilities 3.3 Estimate and record the cost of repair or replacement of park facilities |
4. Submit report and recommendations |
4.1 Address situations requiring urgent action 4.2 Prepare concise and accurate reports and submit to management 4.3 Review existing management systems, particularly regarding frequency of inspection, and make improvements in consultation with management 4.4 Make recommendations for future action that are consistent with industry standards and best practice 4.5 Submit collected data and information for inclusion on the asset management system |
